SCO Musician Highlight: Emily Huntsman
Meet another one of our violinists, Emily Huntsman! Emily is about to begin her second year with Stratus Chamber Orchestra.
Emily earned her B.A. from Fort Lewis College in Durango, with a double major in music and philosophy, and since graduating she has led a successful career as a performing musician. She has played for the San Juan Symphony, Nova Duo, and the Kitchen Jam Band. Currently, she subs for the Chamber Orchestra of the Springs in addition to playing with Stratus, and also teaches violin and orchestra in Colorado Springs.
Emily’s favorite thing about Stratus is the repertoire. She loves that the orchestra chooses to play little known but highly enjoyable pieces, allowing the musicians to engage with audiences through diverse music and genuinely engaging performances. She loves the energy of performing alongside other talented musicians, and the comradery of being together in the trenches on a tricky piece.
In her free time, Emily and her husband sell organic rainbow eggs, raise and butcher all their own pastured poultry, and have a 40 x 40 ft mandala garden. They hope to eventually expand what Emily calls her “Little House on the Prairie Dream!”
