SCO Musician Highlight: John Sandusky
Meet another of our incredible brass musicians - Trombonist John Sandusky! John has been performing with Stratus Chamber Orchestra for 6 years.
John earned his Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Colorado in 1987. In addition to being a member of Stratus, John works as a freelance musician for a variety of performance styles, especially musical theater. He is also an IT professional for Jefferson County Public Library. John is a talented multi-instrumentalist who also plays alto trombone, bass trombone, and euphonium.
John wishes everyone knew that there is a wealth of chamber music of all kinds, and that a chamber orchestra can be much more than simply a string orchestra that plays Haydn, Mozart, and Bach. His favorite thing about Stratus is the quality of musicianship and everyone’s determination to bring individual excellence to the ensemble. He especially loves being part of the brass section because of the small size of the sections - it’s often as if the brass and wind parts are solos!
John has a rich performance background. His favorite memory was his 1986 performance of the Lars Eric Larson Concertino for Trombone with the University of Colorado Symphony Orchestra after having won the Honors Competition. In his free time, John enjoys playing Dungeons and Dragons, cooking and breadmaking, and watching great movies and TV shows with his family.
