SCO Musician Highlight: Adam Riggs
Meet Dr. Adam Riggs, Stratus’ Principal Cellist, and member of Stratus for almost 9 years.
Adam started playing the cello when he was still smaller than it - he was only 4 years old when he started taking lessons. In his college years, Adam studied at Wilfrid Laurier University in Ontario, where he received his Bachelor of Music Honors Performance degree and a Diploma in Chamber Music. He then went on to receive his Master of Music Performance degree from the Hartt School of Music at the University of Hartford in Connecticut. He got his Doctor of Musical Arts Performance degree from the University of Colorado, and has been out here ever since.
Adam boasts a variety of artistic talents for his career, as he is not only a Stratus musician, but a private cello teacher, videographer, and photographer. As a natural performer, Adam loves performance photography, but he also loves photographing weddings, individual and group photoshoots, headshots, and landscapes. As a hobby, he also enjoys cycling.
Adam states he has too many memorable Stratus performances to choose a favorite. He particularly enjoys performing and listening to composers such as Dvorak, Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Rachmaninov, Copland, and more.
Adam’s favorite thing about Stratus is that they are a highly creative ensemble and constantly strive to bring music to audiences in new and exciting ways.
