SCO Musician Highlight: Josh Decker

Meet Josh Decker, one of Stratus’ new members for the upcoming season!

Josh is a multi-talented trumpet player who is thrilled to be joining Stratus this year. Josh studied trumpet and music education at Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, OH. He later studied at Carnegie Mellon in Pittsburgh with the principal trumpet of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. Josh’s main focus with the trumpet has been orchestral playing, but he also enjoys playing with quintets, brass ensembles and brass funk bands.

For work, Josh teaches music lessons and sectionals in Denver Public, Jeff Co. and Boulder Valley School districts. Outside of work, he has many interests and hobbies, including hiking, biking, HIIT workouts, yoga, cooking international cuisine, landscaping, gardening, and seeing live music.

Josh joined Stratus out of a love for performing with high-quality musicians, and he loves that Stratus often premieres new works. He also says that Stratus musicians are all very committed to their craft, and he cannot wait to be a part of the music-making.
